Coaches for 2016/2017 Season Announced
Training begins this Thursday September 1
Jacana Cricket Club welcomes our newly appointed senior head coach, Taqi Mohammadi and head junior coach, Darren Shepherd. We also have some movement in levels of the Senior Mens division and training starts for all this Thursday. Read further below:
Born in Afghanistan, 28 year old Taqi moved to Pakistan at the age of 10 where he played district cricket for Quetta Cricket club. As a left arm orthodox bowler Taqi boasts a proud record of in excess of 120 career wickets to his name and a high score of 175 runs. Taqi was quickly promoted to Quetta's first class cricket team, however after only a few games had to leave Pakistan due to personal reasons.
Upon arriving in Australia and settling in Sydney's west in 2011, Taqi acquired his coaching accreditation to which he successfully took over as assistant coach for Triforce Indoor Coaching Centre all the while playing cricket for Sydney's Western District Cricket Club where he played until he unfortunately hurt his arm leaving him unable to play at a district level.
Now residing in Melbourne, Taqi has taken up residence in Jacana where he works as a community services worker within the human service sector while playing the odd game of community cricket for various sides to help out his mates, before landing the lucrative position on senior head coach at our very own Jacana Cricket Club.
He's excited to join the club and looks forward to meeting you all down there.
Seniors Men Update
After much lobbying by the committee to the VTCA, it has now been confirmed that the Mens A1 side will be lowered by 2 levels within the A1. This level will be better suited to the current teams, will be safer and allow us to be competitive.
Raised in Broady, this 30 something year old lovable larrikin has quickly stolen the hearts of everyone at Jacana Cricket Club in just his very first season for the club.
As an all rounder for the 3rds, Little Daz boasts in excess of 3 wickets to his name and a high score of 43. Sick of being approached by the Australian Cricket Team to open the batting and bowling for them, Little Daz has retired from A-level cricket to focus on coaching the juniors here at our very own Jacana Cricket Club.
The club are heavily focused this season on Junior development. We are working closely with council and some local schools to get an Under 12's team up and running, and are heavily invested in recruiting under 14's and 16's. Membership this season is free for Juniors.
If you know anyone in these age brackets who may be interested in playing - please send them our way - get them to head down to training on Thursdays (starting 5pm during daylight savings time) or contact the club either via e-mail or phone Jodie Shanks on 0422 998 375.
